WRITE IT OUT

This group meets once a week for four weeks to share members’ work, discuss, celebrate, and advise by way of providing mutual support in the quest for the gold that is the writer's art.

It’s been said that there is no such thing as writing, only re-writing. It’s also been observed that writing, like all creativity, is “serious play.” These two observations are crucial to both the spirit and the proceedings of the group.

Editing is an extension of the fun of writing the original draft, which itself involves countless intuitive and critical revisions. So when we offer one another critical insights into shared pieces, we are committing acts of generosity and all input is both offered and received as a gift. The same is true when we indicate what works well in a given piece, since the author is often unaware that certain elements do work. In short, every author needs to know how readers react to their pieces, especially when they are in progress. Genres: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, play scripts, screenplays.

BIO—Terry Culleton

A Bucks County (PA) Poet Laureate emeritus, Terence Culleton has published poems in a variety of reviews and journals in both the U.S. and the U.K., including Amherst Review, Alabama Literary Review, Birmingham Review, Blue Unicorn, Cumberland Review, Edge City Review, Modern Poetry Quarterly, Orbis, and others. He has been nominated for several Pushcarts and Best of the Web awards and he has appeared on TV and radio shows in both the Philadelphia area and New York City. Several of his poems have been featured on NPR. Mr. Culleton’s third volume of poetry, a collection of sonnets entitled A Tree and Gone, is now out through Future Cycle Press and has been featured on the New York Review of Books Independent Press “New Releases” list. His fourth collection, Message From a Floating Dock, will be out this summer through White Violet Press.
