The Leadership Team at Friends Village is comprised of professionals with years of experience and education in the field of healthy aging.

Chiyo Moriuchi

CEO & Executive Director

  • Prior to joining Friends Village in 2019, Chiyo cultivated her strategic and managerial skills through a long career in international finance and real estate. Her interest in how we grow and age developed as a board member of George School, Medford Leas, and the Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation and caused her to return to graduate school to deepen her understanding of issues of aging.

    She is a lifelong Quaker and former clerk of Newtown Friends Meeting. Chiyo holds master’s degrees in Business and Public Health from Columbia University.

Steven L. Grant

Environmental Services Director

  • Steve has been in Facilities Management for over 30 years. As the Environmental Services Director for Friends Village, Steve overseas the maintenance, housekeeping, security and transportation services. He is also part of the technology team and is a CAPS certified aging in place specialist.  Steve’s experience allows him to manage the many renovations that are taking place at Friends Village. He has a close working relationship with all of the residents and immerses himself fully into whatever their needs are. Being around the residents at both of our campuses creates a much stronger relationship that has actually grown into a friendship for Steve.  By responding quickly to resident needs, he believes he brings a better quality of life to Friends Village.

Christine Popplewell

Finance & Administration Senior Director

  • Since 2003, Christine has managed the financial and human resource departments of Friends Village. She prides herself on her attention to detail, adaptability and conflict resolution skills.  Christine believes that “Our team members are the ones who shape our residents’ daily experience.  A happy team makes for happy residents. so providing a professional and supportive work environment is critical for delivering on our mission.”

    Christine holds an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Bucks County Community College and a certification in Human Resource Management from Villanova University.

Karen Haney

Advancement Director

  • Karen has been with Friends Village for 14 years, and brings a wealth  of experience to the role of Advancement Director. With a background in advertising, IT, and executive support, she fuses technology with creativity when marketing Friends Village to the public or cultivating new supporters. Recognizing the importance of personal connections and respect for individual perspectives, she brings a great energy grounded in experience when meeting potential new residents. “Transitioning from your home to a community can be overwhelming. My goal is to help folks feel at ease and informed, to shed light on how exciting it can be. This is a new beginning, with opportunities for growth and new friendships.”

Norma Coverdale

Director of Resident Services

  • Norma began her career in long-term care over 30 years ago. With a broad knowledge base and connections with a variety of network of professionals, she understands that, when it comes to aging, one size doesn’t fit all. “It’s important to look at older adults as individuals,” says Norma, “Some like to be active and on-the-go, and others are private or spectators.” Her approach? “Encouraging and being present are most important to helping folks make the right plan. You need to know you have a friend to help along the way.”
