Self-Care During the Holidays
December 2025
It’s holiday season, which can be filled with love, joy, and family!
But sometimes, it can be overwhelming, anxiety-inducing, or, for some, lonely. There are many reasons for these feelings, including seasonal depression, family issues, grief, financial stress, and more.
Fortunately, there are ways you can get help during this time. One of the biggest ways is by prioritizing self-care for yourself! Here are some tips.
Sleep
A hectic holiday schedule can lead to exhaustion and a lack of sleep, which increases stress.
Making sleep an obligation and avoiding screens, such as your cell phone or television, can ensure you getting enough sleep in every night.
Connect
If you’re not able to spend time with loved ones for whatever reason — or you are spending time with your family, but whish you could be with your chosen family — remember that you can always connect with people over the phone.
Also check the activities calendar to find ways to get involved and connect with other residents and staff!
Acknowledge Your Grief
For people grieving the loss of a loved one, it can sometimes feel like the rest of the world has forgotten and moved on from something that was very painful for you. If it’s your first holiday without them, these feelings can be incredibly strong.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve or celebrate the holidays, and your grief matters whether you feel sad or find joy during this time.
Some Things to Help
Find ways to give back — doing something for others can be rewarding and purposeful for yourself!
Do exercises or meditation.
Remember, it’s okay to take a breath and say “no!”
